Justin Durant: Cowboys LB corps can be among best - Tim MacMahon, ESPN Dallas
Justin Durant, a six-year veteran with 68 NFL starts under his belt, is highly impressed by his fellow linebackers Bruce Carter and Sean Lee:

"Man, Bruce is special with how athletic, how strong he is, how fast and everything. It?s crazy," Justin Durant said. "And Sean is probably the best at playmaking recognition that I?ve seen. He can diagnose. He knows more than the coaches, man. It?s just crazy."

MacMahon writes that Durant firmly believes the Cowboys can have one of the league?s elite linebacker corps.

"It can be one of the best, I think," Durant said. "The ability that I see in those guys, man, they?re two of the best that I?ve played with. As long as we keep working, keep working, keep working, keep fighting, keep trying to get better as a whole, we?re going to be all right. I really think it can be one of the best."

Why doesn't Jason Witten get a 'veteran day off'? Garrett refers you to the 'Aggie 21' story
This is a must-read story in which Jason Garrett explains why he can't get Witten to take a day off. Minor spoiler:

"You start the conversation," Garrett said. "He nods his head, he continues to nod his head, and he goes out to practice again and again and again."

Williams continues to improve with strong scrimmage - C. Hill, Star-Telegram
Clarence Hill writes that Terrance Williams had a strong practice yesterday, with several receptions and a TD, and that Williams credits Dez Bryant and Miles Austin for their positive reinforcement.

"I was nervous at the beginning," Williams said. "The dropped pass brought me down. Dez and Miles told me to let it go. I was nervous being here for the first time. I got used to it. I?m getting better day by day. The goal is not to take a step back and keep going forward."

Day 7 observations from Dallas Cowboys training camp practice - B. George, DMN
Brandon George offers a play-by-play of the highlights of yesterday's practice, which includes these two gems:

For a second consecutive day, WR Jared Green did a good job keeping both feet in bounds in the back of the end zone for a touchdown catch in 7-on-7 red zone drills on a pass from QB Alex Tanney. Later in team drills, Green short-armed a pass over the middle that he appeared to be in position to catch from Tanney.

WR Eric Rogers made a nice touchdown catch on a jump-ball, deep pass from QB Alex Tanney in team drills. Tanney had a good day and on this play, looked a lot like Tony Romo avoiding the pass-rush. Tanney stepped up in the pocket and slung the ball to the left end zone, where Rogers out-jumped safeties Eric Frampton and Micah Pellerin for the catch.

Do Those Who Deny Advanced Statistics Even Watch the Game? - Advanced NFL Stats
Josh Morgan has a powerful message to those who deny advanced analytics:

"The realm of "clutch" and "overrated" and "the will to win," is vehemently guarded by otherwise smart and rational people, who deny new kinds of perspectives the way Rollingstone Magazine denies anything relevant happened in rock 'n' roll since 1975. But to those smart and rational people: Your time is passing."

For anybody even remotely statistically inclined, this is a great read.
