Apple report: Chinese workers unhappy as they put together your cheaper iPhone

Bloomberg

A report by nonprofit China Labor Watch said Apple's supplier Pegatron is working employees long hours for little pay.

A report out today by New York-based nonprofit China Labor Watch looked into the working conditions of Apple?s Chinese supplier, Pegatron.

It revealed two pieces of news, one intentionally and one probably less so.

First, the report highlighted Pegatron?s less-than-desirable working conditions at three different factories in China. As in, 11-hour days, six days a week, making about $1.50 an hour. It?s kind of a black eye considering Apple made a big fanfare of investigating its supply chain to improve working conditions.

Both Apple and Pegatron said they would investigate the allegations.

The other revealing detail on the report? Employees working those ridiculous hours are currently building that rumored cheaper iPhone. The report references the new iPhone throughout (well, and the title is ?Apple?s unkept promises: Cheap iPhones come at high costs to Chinese workers?). It also mentioned the low-priced phone is plastic and will soon be released on the market. (Venturebeat does a nice job pulling out all those references here.)

Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: Cowboys LB Corps Among Best In NFL?

Latest Dallas Cowboys headlines: Justin Durant thinks the Cowboys have one of the top LB units in the league, Garrett explains why it's hard to give Witten a day off, and Terrance Williams gets some help from the vets.

Justin Durant: Cowboys LB corps can be among best - Tim MacMahon, ESPN Dallas
Justin Durant, a six-year veteran with 68 NFL starts under his belt, is highly impressed by his fellow linebackers Bruce Carter and Sean Lee:

"Man, Bruce is special with how athletic, how strong he is, how fast and everything. It?s crazy," Justin Durant said. "And Sean is probably the best at playmaking recognition that I?ve seen. He can diagnose. He knows more than the coaches, man. It?s just crazy."

MacMahon writes that Durant firmly believes the Cowboys can have one of the league?s elite linebacker corps.

"It can be one of the best, I think," Durant said. "The ability that I see in those guys, man, they?re two of the best that I?ve played with. As long as we keep working, keep working, keep working, keep fighting, keep trying to get better as a whole, we?re going to be all right. I really think it can be one of the best."

Why doesn't Jason Witten get a 'veteran day off'? Garrett refers you to the 'Aggie 21' story
This is a must-read story in which Jason Garrett explains why he can't get Witten to take a day off. Minor spoiler:

"You start the conversation," Garrett said. "He nods his head, he continues to nod his head, and he goes out to practice again and again and again."

Williams continues to improve with strong scrimmage - C. Hill, Star-Telegram
Clarence Hill writes that Terrance Williams had a strong practice yesterday, with several receptions and a TD, and that Williams credits Dez Bryant and Miles Austin for their positive reinforcement.

"I was nervous at the beginning," Williams said. "The dropped pass brought me down. Dez and Miles told me to let it go. I was nervous being here for the first time. I got used to it. I?m getting better day by day. The goal is not to take a step back and keep going forward."

Some Early Observations From Sunday's Scrimmage - B. Broaddus, DallasCowboys.com
Broaddus walks us through his take on Sunday's scrimmage, highlighting the efforts of Sterling Moore, Jason Hatcher, Anthony Smith and Tyron Smith.

Day 7 observations from Dallas Cowboys training camp practice - B. George, DMN
Brandon George offers a play-by-play of the highlights of yesterday's practice, which includes these two gems:

For a second consecutive day, WR Jared Green did a good job keeping both feet in bounds in the back of the end zone for a touchdown catch in 7-on-7 red zone drills on a pass from QB Alex Tanney. Later in team drills, Green short-armed a pass over the middle that he appeared to be in position to catch from Tanney.

WR Eric Rogers made a nice touchdown catch on a jump-ball, deep pass from QB Alex Tanney in team drills. Tanney had a good day and on this play, looked a lot like Tony Romo avoiding the pass-rush. Tanney stepped up in the pocket and slung the ball to the left end zone, where Rogers out-jumped safeties Eric Frampton and Micah Pellerin for the catch.

Do Those Who Deny Advanced Statistics Even Watch the Game? - Advanced NFL Stats
Josh Morgan has a powerful message to those who deny advanced analytics:

"The realm of "clutch" and "overrated" and "the will to win," is vehemently guarded by otherwise smart and rational people, who deny new kinds of perspectives the way Rollingstone Magazine denies anything relevant happened in rock 'n' roll since 1975. But to those smart and rational people: Your time is passing."

For anybody even remotely statistically inclined, this is a great read.

Found some $10 Diamond Millionaire, bought two but they both lost. Nice start... It has the same prize structure as $1M Fortune, hope it plays better.(none of that 5@ $2 ridiculous prizes)

Also got some $5 Smokin' Hot Cash:

0, 0, $20, $15 - both wins were in the Bonus Game

I see a trend here, all my wins so far in Smokin Hot were in the Bonus Game. The prize structure is the same as $5 Calif Lottery Black, but it certainly plays differently.

Jon

We go there once a year with my daughter just for a change and have some fun in the Angels Flight..I had lunch at Grand Market at the Japanese place near the entrance on the left side once you get down the steps inside. I ate sushi...Wife and daughter are vegetarians so their choices are few so they ended up with some salad. To top it off we have lots of icecream at Jose's icecream at the end of the market on left side. I had the icecream first time about 18 months back when I was there and I was surprised with the huge portion and low cost. We 3 had 2 scoops each and paid like $8.

I got my lotto at Famima in the Two California Plaza building on top of Bunker Hill.

My losing streak continues on Diamond Mil, bought two, both lost. Angry

Made up for it with Smokin Hot:

(#79-76) - $10, 0, 0, $50 - $10 in Bonus Game, $50 was 10X $5.

Machine was loaded backwards, so this was start of a fresh roll.

David ?Kidd? Kraddick Dead: Radio Star Died on Golf Course at New Orleans Charity Event

David "Kidd" Kraddick Dead: Radio Star Died on Golf Course at New Orleans Charity Event

It?s a pretty sad day in modern broadcasting history as David ?Kidd? Kraddick, an extremely popular morning radio host died on a golf course yesterday at a charity event in New Orleans. Over the years Kidd had taken his popularity and used it to form Kidd?s Kids, a charity foundation that was deeply involved with sick and terminal children nationwide. It was at one of those Kidd?s Kids events that the 53-year old Dallas native passed away.

Kidd?s program, Kidd Kraddick in the Morning is syndicated by YEA Networks and is heard on more than 75 Top 40 and Hot AC radio stations making it a leader among most-listened-to contemporary morning programs. The radio program also is transmitted globally on American Forces Radio Network and the show?s popularcast is also seen weeknights on the nationally syndicated TV show ?Dish Nation?.

Kidd became popular in the Dallas radio market back in 1984 when he was a regular on the overnight shift. He later headed up a trailblazing morning show that worked its way into syndication by 2001. If you?re lucky enough to be in one of the markets that carries Kidd Kraddick in the morning then you already know his recipe for success- a few great side kicks with radically different personalities to play off of. Of course music, guests and interviews reigned supreme but Kidd along with Kelli Rasberry, Jenna Owen, J Si Chavez and Big Al Mack brought listeners into their conversation each morning. It was the equivalent to eavesdropping on a group of people knee-deep in conversation and then getting to put your two cents in at the very end. The method has worked and that, along with Kidd?s hugely generous heart is what will make him so dearly missed.

Are you a fan of Kidd Kraddick in the Morning? Do you feel like you just lost someone that you actually know? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
