UConn defensive coordinator Don Brown will be named the 34th head coach of the Yale football team, the Hartford Courant and New Haven Register reported Monday.

Brown was previously the defensive coordinator under Hall-of-Famer Carm Cozza from 1987 to 1992. Brown is also considered a strong contender for the head coaching gig due to his previous heading coaching experiences ? over 12 seasons as head coach at Plymouth State, Northeastern and UMass, he compiled a 95?45 record.

In 2006, Brown led UMass to the Football Championship Division title game and was named the New England Football Coach of the Year. Four years later, as the defensive coordinator for Maryland, he helped the Terrapins to a 51?20 victory in the Military Bowl. In 1992, Brown was named the interim head baseball coach for the Bulldogs, leading the team to a 26?10 record.

The formal decision could be announced as soon as Wednesday, one source familiar with the search process said.
